About

Iris Zihan Zheng

Textile/Knitwear Designer

Iris Zihan Zheng is a textile and knitwear designer from China, and a graduate of BA Textile Design at Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London. Her practice is rooted in a strong passion for knitting, with a particular focus on both technical exploration and material innovation.

She explores the potential of combining knitting with other techniques such as dyeing, 3D printing, and embroidery to develop novel textile surfaces and structures for contemporary knitwear. Her design approach emphasizes experimentation and the creation of original material expressions that challenge traditional boundaries.

Iris often investigates the relationship between knitted fabrics and the human body, seeking to create designs that are both emotionally resonant and physically responsive. In her creative process, considerations around environmental impact influence her choices in yarns, materials, and construction methods.

Embody Softness

This project is titled Embody Softness, and it explores how knit with embroidery can communicate a sense of softness and comfort to the body. Through gentle textures and tactile details, Iris aims to create a physical and emotional experience that helps people feel more relaxed and at ease. By combining craftsmanship with soft material expressions, the project invites a deeper connection between body, fabric, and feeling.
