Herong Chen
About
Herong(He.Banyan) is a textile designer from Zhejiang China, with a multidisciplinary background in textile engineering and design. Her work integrates various techniques, including knitting, weaving, nonwoven fabrics, printing, yarn development, and biomaterials. Within her practice, she focuses on contemporary human perception, drawing inspiration from nature, traditional culture, and personal psychology. Her work aims to encourage authenticity and a return to a more natural state of being, to help people stay real. “Study Nature outside, Catch Source inside” expresses this concept well.
Her MA projects originate from her personal experience, addressing the psychological and physical issues caused by prolonged desk-bound lifestyles. Many people, including herself, feel trapped by their thoughts and external influences. She explored the journey of self-exploration and emotional release through interactive knit textiles. “While we cannot always change the world around us, we can shift our perspective—rediscovering THE INSIDE ME, which is vibrant and full of color.”
She also explores stress-relief structures, and the medicinal and sensory healing functions of herbs. She developed wearable daily-use products that support holistic well-being—blending emotional comfort with functional design. Through this, She hopes to reconnect people with themselves and their surroundings in an honest, gentle way.
She is a textile designer who focuses on the application and research of structures and materials
