Clare Wren Catallo-Werner

Clare Wren is a writer and researcher whose interests encompass theatre, film and twentieth-century furniture and architecture. She holds a BA in History from Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Michigan, with a minor in English Literature and a concentration in Film & Media Studies. Her undergraduate thesis, ‘A Feature of Her Establishment’: Finding Women in Frank Lloyd Wright’s Usonian Kitchens in Michigan explored Wright’s design philosophy and analysed his kitchen spaces alongside the experiences of the women who lived and worked in the houses. Her MA dissertation, titled ‘If I Were a Woman’: Dimensions of Gender in Three Productions of ‘As You Like It’, examined costumes for the character of Rosalind in three twentieth- and twenty-first-century productions through the lens of contemporary gender markers and social politics. She is also interested in textile arts and co-led a combined lecture series and fabric zine-making workshop for her AcrossRCA project.
