Kyungmin Nam
About
Kyungmin Nam (b.2002) is a Korean artist based in London.
Kyungmin’s work is a process of transformation. Using found objects as her canvas, she revitalises materials that might otherwise be discarded or forgotten. These overlooked objects become part of an ongoing dialogue about memory, mortality, and renewal, reflecting the deeper philosophical foundation of her practice. For Kyungmin, painting extends beyond the surface—it is an exploration of presence, capturing what remains, what fades, and what can be reimagined. Grounded in the belief that death is not an end but a transition, her work engages with impermanence, layering material and gestures to reflect the fluid nature of existence.
By dissolving the boundaries between painting and object, she challenges conventional notions of permanence and value, prompting a discourse on preservation and loss. Balancing tradition with innovation, she integrates established techniques with experimental processes, allowing texture, mark-making, and materiality to become central to meaning-making. Through this interplay of presence and impermanence, her work invites a reconsideration of what is often overlooked, expanding into broader themes of transience and transformation. In doing so, she encourages viewers to reflect on their own relationship with time, memory, and materiality.
