Madeline Churchill

MEd Creative Education

About

I am an artist–educator from the UK, with extensive experience teaching art in both national and international contexts. My work as an educator is an extension of my creative practice, rooted in the belief that art offers limitless possibilities for self-expression and critical engagement.

My research focuses on the creative journey: how learners navigate their ideas from conception to final outcome, and how educators can meaningfully support this process. This interest has shaped both my teaching practice and my projects, including The Story of A to B: A Map for the Creative Journey, a drawing exercise that connects archetypes from nature to creative thinking strategies.

My MEd research explored metacognition in the art classroom, examining how metacognitive awareness and strategies influence success in IB Visual Arts. This work reflects my broader aim to foster curiosity, confidence, and autonomy in learners by equipping them with the tools, language, and insight to understand and direct their own creative processes.

Alongside my research and teaching, I maintain a fine art practice in painting, drawing, and mixed media. After graduation, I intend to continue this integrated approach through Studio M Shanghai — my creative and educational practice — supporting learners of all ages, from early childhood to professional portfolio development, while pursuing my own artistic inquiries.
