Ines Yan Mei Ng

Graduate Diploma 24/25

About

My name is Ines Yan Mei Ng, and I am a multidisciplinary designer and maker whose practice is rooted in storytelling, play, and delight. Ever since I was a child, I have wrapped myself in imagined worlds.

Informed by my mixed heritage and a background in science, I explore our relationships with non-human actors and invite deeper reflection on the narratives we construct about ourselves and the natural world. I also am deeply interested in the power of play. My work aims to spark curiosity, nostalgia and emotional connection. Spanning casting, woodworking, sculpting, painting, coding, sound, and video, I engage with cross-disciplinary practices to bring my work to life.

I believe there is real power in charming and even somewhat silly work – there is a magical pause that comes when something interrupts our grown-up sensibilities in a moment of delight – it disarms us of our preconceptions and invites joyful and curious engagement.
