Lavender Liu
About
Lavender completed her undergraduate studies in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) at Durham University in the UK, with a primary academic focus on aesthetics and contemporary art criticism. Her research explores themes such as artistic autonomy, anti-capitalist critique, and synesthesia within the context of critical art theory.
At the postgraduate level, Lavender pursued a degree in Jewellery and Metal at the Royal College of Art. Influenced by her personal experiences with physical and mental illness, she became deeply aware of an unseen community—those silently suffering from both physical and psychological conditions. This realization led her to dedicate her creative practice to the field of healing arts.
Lavender uses music and jewelry as mediums to engage the audience’s senses and bodies, aiming to create a playful yet scientifically-informed sound experience. Her goal is to invite people into immersive healing spaces where interaction and sensory activation become therapeutic processes.
Beyond her identity as a jewelry designer, Lavender is also a lineage bearer of the Sichuan school of Guqin—one of China’s oldest Taoist instruments. Her musical practice blends Guqin improvisation with binaural beats, presented through live performance, music production, and DJing. She creates interactive jewelry that responds to movement and sound, allowing the audience to become part of the performance. Ultimately, her work strives to bring joy, relaxation, and emotional connection to those who experience it.
