Efrat Merin
About
Efrat Merin is a London-based artist, Bloomberg New Contemporaries alumn (2023), and graduate of Turps Art School (2022). Her work merges lesbo-futuristic and Judeo-futuristic mythologies, using a sgraffito technique she developed through explorations with cold wax encaustic paint, in which layered surfaces are scratched and revealed. Through this archaeological process, her figures—often anthropomorphic women—embody desire, oppression, and liberation, navigating the liminal space between birth and decay.
She is the recipient of an Arts Council England DYCP grant (2024), an A-N Artist Bursary (2023), and the Darbyshire Award for Emerging Art (2022). Her solo exhibitions include The Other Side of Paradise at Anima Mundi Gallery, St Ives (2024), Atomic Relations at SVA, Stroud (2023), and Anima Mundi at Darbyshire Ltd (2023). Group exhibitions include shows at Camden Art Centre, Grundy Art Gallery (Blackpool), and the Vincent van Gogh Huis Museum (Zundert). Her work has been featured in numerous publications, including Floorrr Magazine and ArtMaze Mag.
