Jinseul Park
About
Jinseul Park (b.1997) is an artist from Seoul who explores Han – a uniquely Korean emotion of unresolved sorrow, oppression, and resilience. Her work addresses the tension between cultural traditions and personal identity, as well as the impact of generational trauma, reflecting both historical and contemporary contexts.
Through bruised colors, Jinseul evokes Han, an emotion rooted in repressed experiences and unspoken generational histories. With her background in Oriental painting, she creates textured surfaces with traditional materials such as Hanji (Korean paper), Korean ink, and pigments to express the emotional depth and complexity of Han.
In her recent works in the UK, she integrates architectural structures made from Hanji and paints figures in bruised hues, inviting viewers into a space that reflects on history, the Asian diaspora, and the emotional landscapes that shape her generation.
