侯健松 Jiansong Hou
About
Jiansong Hou (b. 2001, Guangzhou, China) is a photographer with a background in commercial photography, having worked with media companies across China. His practice has been predominantly documentary in style and approach, to which he also adds composite and non-lens-based photography.
Hou’s work is rooted in documentary traditions but frequently expands into experimental formats. His recent projects explore themes such as urban sprawl, Chinese immigrants in Europe, and the lived consequences of globalization. Hou responds to grand themes by foregrounding small, sometimes personal, details.
During his studies at the Royal College of Art, Hou developed Tossed by the Tides, a project investigating the disruptions in global marine transportation. The work is structured around a journey to Guangzhou (Canton), China, and the Suez Canal in Egypt—two critical nodes in global shipping networks. Presented in an archival style, the project blends factual research with fictional narratives, using both real and AI-generated images. This blending of truth and fiction serves to question visual authenticity and enrich the narrative structure. Tossed by the Tides offers a layered perspective on the global shipping system, inviting viewers not only to observe but also to form their own interpretations of the geopolitical tensions, particularly those unfolding in the Middle East.
