About
Flo Du
Flo Du (b.1999, Hangzhou, China) is an artist based between Shanghai and London, working primarily with photography and sculpture. She is also a regular poker player embedded in complex, overlapping social spheres.
Fascinated by the human body, she approaches it as both symbol and site, a space where desire stretches and power subtly shifts. Her practice investigates the performance of power dynamics in intimate relationships and competitive spaces, tracing the interplay between physical presence, psychological tension, and strategic negotiation.
For more than two years, she has documented real scenes in bedrooms and casinos. It led to the birth of Flesh Bet, a selection of photographs that delves into the intertwined realms of gambling, sexuality, and human nature.
Flesh Bet
Flesh Bet is a selection of works exhibited at the graduation show, drawn from lived experiences. Some were taken without notice in underground casinos. It explores how human behavior is constantly shaped by the pursuit of power. In modern society, direct confrontation has largely given way to subtle, soft forms of negotiation. Physical gestures, facial expressions, silence—these become tools in ongoing, often invisible battles for control.
Gambling and sex serve as concentrated arenas where these dynamics are theatrically amplified. Special attention is given to hand movements, as they offer a window into desire and intimacy. These two often blur into one another. In such moments, the lines between tenderness and calculation dissolve, leaving a haze where control and vulnerability quietly coexist.
