林心语 Xinyu Lin
About
Xinyu Lin is a London-based interdisciplinary artist working across photography, video, installation, and writing. Her practice explores the entanglements of memory, emotion, and cultural identity. Often rooted in personal experience, her work weaves together fiction and documentary, ritual and the body, creating spaces where the personal and historical echo one another. She sees art as a form of delayed conversation—a way to question the departed and to search for the self that remains.
Her current project began with an unfinished farewell to her grandmother. A funeral that was hastily concluded in real life finds a space for healing and remembrance through artistic reconstruction. The work comprises a photobook woven from memory and fiction, a series of symbolic hanging fabric images, and a performance video structured after the traditional Chinese three-day funeral. Through these, she constructs a quiet and poetic “private mourning hall,” inviting viewers to recall their own losses. This project is not only an act of remembrance but also a way of transforming grief into creation.
