About

Artist Statement

Adam Dorgham (born 1997) is a British Egyptian photographer based in London, with a background in biology and marketing. His journey into photography was not linear – it was a gradual shift from the structured world of science and strategy into a medium that allows him to explore the intangible, the unseen, and the deeply personal. He uses photography to challenge perception, inviting viewers to look beyond the ordinary and engage with the overlooked.

Dorgham’s practice looks to provide a rare perspective on the world around us. He challenges conventional methods of communication and artistic licence, and is uniquely placed to use his work as a bridge between complexity and clarity. His background in science and marketing allows him to process and work with complex and deep themes and invite the viewer to explore these in a personal and interesting way.

A lot of Dorgham’s work centres on using and pushing the boundaries of materials and materiality. His work endeavours to blur the boundary between image and viewer, to create a shared experience that exists beyond the frame. Some of Dorgham’s work has exhibited internationally, including in London, Arles, and Tokyo.

Visceral Tales

Dorgham’s series for RCA 2025 is called ‘Visceral Tales.’ The series transports the viewer to a raw, primal state, challenging how we engage with the abject and the image. Through large format photography, identity and meaning are stripped away, boundaries blurred, and what is cast out reclaimed—manifesting the abject in visual form. These figures inhabit a space between the pre-linguistic and the symbolic, evoking the fear of returning to a chaotic, undifferentiated state. Yet in this visceral context, they are given voice—glamorised, expressive, and capable of telling tales that move beyond horror, revealing deeper tensions of self, other, and transformation.
