About

Naomi Akvama (b. 1991) is a Danish-Ghanian artist from Copenhagen, Denmark, currently based in London, UK. Working across videography, photography, installation and collage.

Her practice moves through the negotiations of intimacy, identity, and perception, engaging with subjectivity, relationality, and temporality. She often treats the medium as a form of listening – receptive to what is unspoken, hidden, unresolved, or emotionally inherited. Her work encourages a quiet attentiveness and embraces vulnerability, allowing interpretations to shift, breathe, and resist closure. Often working with her own film archive, she collects fragments shot mostly on iPhone. These pieces become a way of tracing emotional undercurrents – searching for what a moment stirs, and why. She is interested in how a feeling might be recreated, expanded, or even distorted.

Naomi has exhibited her work both nationally and internationally, including at Kunsthal Charlottenborg (DK), the AD Germany Design Awards (DE), Les Rencontres d’Arles (FR), and Copenhagen Photo Festival (DK), and has recently been honored with the Metro Imaging Mentorship Prize, led by Steve Macleod.

In autumn/winter 2026, she has been granted a residency in Greenland through Arctic Culture Lab, led by Andreas Hoffmann, PhD – curator and artistic director – to explore the relationship between humans and nature, and how solitude affects us.
