About

Sol Mendelson (b. 1997) is an American artist from Washington, DC, based in London.

His work explores the photographic practice as a form of catharsis and meditation, quietly challenging the idea that photographs are ever as evidential as the medium suggests. He operates at the edge of earnestness and abstraction, expressing an ‘ambient intimacy’ that grounds his images in a world we are all familiar with.

Rooted in what is a long-term diaristic practice, his work features a subtle tonality that mirrors a personal sensitivity to environment. The result is a language of ‘anti-photogenic iconography’ that is ripe for viewer projection.
