About
Song Hong
Song Hong is a visual artist born in Jiujiang, China, currently based in London. He is pursuing an MA in Photography at the Royal College of Art. His practice began with an exploration of the past—cultural remnants, personal memory, and specific landscapes—using a wide range of mediums including classical photographic processes, narrative imagery, AI generation, installation, and artist publications.
In recent years, Song has expanded his focus to the field of artificial intelligence, investigating how technology reshapes our understanding of identity, mythology, and memory. His major project New Mythology integrates video, an interactive AI dialogue model, and a physical sculpture. Through the fictional AI character “Dijiang,” the work explores the cognitive boundaries of non-human intelligence and questions whether simulation constitutes real existence.
Song’s practice moves fluidly between research, scripting, and system design, constructing multiple pathways between critical inquiry and poetic form. His ongoing exploration centers on a key question: how can image-based media generate new narratives at the intersection of technology and culture.
