Writing (MA)

About

Yiqiang/Summer Li (李怡嫱) is a writer and artist whose practice moves through the textures of relation and perception, tracing how emotion circulates through the quiet details of daily life.

For her, writing is not only a means of narration but a form of listening. She listens to rhythm, to resistance, and to what stirs beneath language. Through repetition and gentle dismantling, her work seeks to reconfigure a relationship between repetition and repair.

Her Independent Research Project, The Gentle Cycle, is a long-form written work that reflects on how care operates within emotional structures. Through a sequence of fragmentary scenes, the project explores how intimacy is shaped by discipline, how emotion and control often blur, and how gestures left unanswered may echo across generations. Rooted in East Asian familial dynamics, the work closely observes the repetition, silence, and uncertainty embedded in acts of care.

Magpie is a short critical reflection written in response to a visit to The Cosmic House as part of the RCA Writing 2025 program. Through close observation of an ink painting and its surrounding architecture, the text reflects on cross-cultural symbolism, visual dissonance, and the quiet tensions between space, display, and interpretation.
