This project takes the urban changes of my hometown: Ningbo Bai He Xin Cun (old neighborhood) as the starting point to explore the relationship between dialect, locality and individual identity, especially focusing on how the cultural identity carried by the local language is dissolved, broken and even reconstructed in the context of the disintegration of the “acquaintance society” and the demolition of old neighborhoods. Tracing personal identity through the lens of the past, breaking the established social framework brought about by group memory or today’s linguistic homogenisation, and by reflecting on the cultural context of personal memory, the audience is invited to rethink the passage of culture and identity in the context of globalisation/the rapid development of the times.
