About

Yeer Zhang is a visual artist and director based in London, Shanghai, and Paris. She works in the gaps between things—between materials, meanings, and states of being. Her practice focuses on what is vanishing, broken, or impossible to categorize: a strip of peeling paint, a dead tree, a bone, or a feeling that quietly sinks and never settles. For Yeer, materials are an entry point into experiences that resist language—experiences shaped by death, belief, and the shifting edges of perception. She is constantly exploring how to let the silent speak. Not by speaking for things, but by speaking with them— co-composing a sense of time that doesn’t belong to the present, isn’t quite the past, and never insists on an ending. This temporal ambiguity runs through her chosen media:sound, moving image, sculpture and print. They become bodies through which matter continues to breathe.

During her studies at IED, Yeer used a deadwood as her collaborator, a way to examine the relationship between death and life from a non-human perspective. She made a book for a piece of land, traced the shape of belief through bone, and once sat beside that tree in Hampstead Heath  for 24 hours, attempting to attune herself to a slower, quieter rhythm of disappearance.

Her interest lies not in death itself, but in what follows: How matter continues, how echoes linger, how human perception might stretch—slowly enough to hear a form resist being named. She is not in pursuit of fixed answers. What defines her process is a willingness to stay close, to doubt, to disassemble and reassemble.
