About

Yinuo Li is a graphic designer based in Beijing and London. She received her BA in Visual Communication from the Central Academy of Fine Arts (China) and is currently pursuing an MA in Visual Communication at the Royal College of Art. Her work primarily focuses on experimental publishing, through which she reconstructs everyday experiences using a distinctive visual language, while continuously exploring the materiality and narrative potential of the book as an object.

During her studies at RCA, she has focused on the relationship between food and identity. Her project We are not a perfect bowl of rice is a comprehensive design project using books as a medium, which includes participatory food art workshops, publication practices and more. This project explores how rice, as a “social food”, becomes a cultural symbol of identity, migration, and belonging. Presented as an experimental publication, it weaves together historical research, participatory workshops, and poetic manifesto. The project introduces Guoba (scorched rice) as a metaphor for the often overlooked  yet enduring sense of self that persists through movements. It aims to challenge the singularity of identity narratives and cultural stereotypes, and to rebuild emotional bonds across diverse cultural contexts.

“We Are Not a Perfect Bowl of Rice.”
