Design Futures (MDes)

About

Bettina Man is an artist, designer and futurist, with a particular interest in Neurodegenerative  Diseases. Her Independent Research project for her master’s at the RCA focused on the future of Social care and Quality of life for those with such conditions.

About the project: This project looks at how the UK can combat future challenges of an aging population and an increasing demand for care. With age being the primary risk for Neurodegenerative diseases, the current system fails to meet the long term, complex care needs these individuals have. It looks at redefining care as a public responsibility, creating personalised and customisable care systems and asks how the role of technology could be used to deliver more accessible, tailored care whilst easing the pressure on the care workforce.

The project proposes a future where quality of life, independence, social connection, and dignity are at the centre of personalised care. It presents four distinct care models that can be customised, co-designed and adapted over time as needs change.
