About

Have fun – it makes you live longer. Not everything has to be so serious.

Meg the Mad Hatter.

I want people to look at my work and ask themselves, why has she done that? Understand my language. Think. What does it mean to you? How do you interpret it? The absurdity of my hats makes it pretty difficult for one to come up with a rational explanation as to why and so it involves a brainstorm or two but this is how my language will be understood. It only needs to make sense to you, the next person to attempt to interpret I’m sure will provide me with another narrative which I can also learn from – the process begins. What can I learn from each individual and how can I create this into a new work?

Whether it be a dressmakers pin as a form of embroidery or hairclips as a flower, I want to provoke this change of thought about the way that we view things around us. What happens to the objects meaning when it deviates from its original purpose?

We are so focused on materialism – the majority of items that we find ourselves surrounded by are frivolous – easily binned once they have served their purpose or we are bored of them. People fail to see the beauty in these things – their multifunction.

Instigate the imagination – it’s a lot more fun than seeing things with such a black and white lens.

The journey doesn’t end when people wear my hats.

Hats control the way that you interact and manoeuvre throughout your environment/s –

They’re a sign of confidence levels – I often ask people if they wear them and more often than not it’s a no due to lack of confidence. They’re the final detail, the full stop, the cherry on top.  And so, what does it say about those who choose to wear mine?

What can I learn from each individual who has the self-assurance to use it as their icing.

From every interaction between person and hat, I gain a greater understanding of my own practice and the people that are open to explore my language.
