Service Design (MA)

About

I’m Julie, a service designer and visual communication designer from Denmark.

With a background in visual communication, I’m deeply interested in how graphic and visual storytelling can enrich the research and design processes. I’m particularly passionate about conversational research methods and participatory design. My practice emphasises live, participatory research approaches that bring insight, empathy, and creativity into the heart of service development.

For my final project, I collaborated with Arya Ankale and Sara Gelfgren to address the low uptake of Shared Parental Leave (SPL).

We explored how parents-to-be can be better supported in making informed decisions about parental leave, with a focus on SPL.

Our service intervention integrates with the antenatal journey, signposting parents parents to tools and resources that help them understand their options, creatively design a leave plan together, and confidently advocate for SPL choices that align with their values, financial circumstances, and long-term family goals.

The service encourages reflection on family aspirations, fosters open conversations, and demystifies SPL – empowering parents-to-be to plan confidently and collaboratively.
