About

Kenichiro Kaneko is a public sector professional at Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, where he has worked since 2016. He has led major policy initiatives across industrial development, workforce transformation, and energy innovation. His responsibilities have included designing Japan’s first national roadmap for ammonia fuel, driving legal reforms to accelerate hydrogen and renewables investment, and leading post-disaster recovery strategies in Fukushima through policy planning and stakeholder engagement. He also headed reskilling programs and contributed to shifting Japan’s traditional seniority-based pay systems toward job-based compensation.

Kenichiro earned his Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Tokyo. In 2024, he completed an MBA at the University of Cambridge, where he engaged in consulting projects for global companies such as INDITEX and UK-based nonprofits. He was selected as a finalist in an international energy competition hosted by Duke University and co-founded the Cambridge Japan Forum.

In autumn 2024, he began an MA in Service Design at the Royal College of Art to further explore how design and systems thinking can enhance policymaking and public services.
