About

Lily Workman is a costume and mixed media designer whose practice explores the haptic and somatic possibilities of costume. With a background in hand embroidery and millinery, she merges meticulous craftsmanship with bold conceptual storytelling. Her work is deeply rooted in the aesthetics of oddities and the irreverent spirit of 1980s camp club culture.

Her most recent project, Suffering in Stoicism, centres on the tension between exterior strength and interior vulnerability. The piece features a sculptural headpiece designed as a kind of personal armour—an outer shell that can be dramatically torn away during performance to reveal a raw, tender surface beneath. This act of transformation creates a moment of catharsis, inviting audiences into a visceral experience of emotional release.
