Meisen Jamir
About
Meisen Jamir is a multidisciplinary textile designer based in London, currently studying for an MA in Textiles at the Royal College of Art. Originally from Nagaland in Northeast India, she holds a BA in Textile Design from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. Her practice is grounded in surface design and mixed media, shaped by a strong connection to making, material exploration, and cultural research.
Meisen’s work is informed by traditional practices, everyday observations, and an interest in how objects and materials carry stories across time. With a hands-on approach, she often works with techniques such as dyeing, stitching, and printing, using them not only as aesthetic tools but as methods of reflection and storytelling.
Her recent project, The Beetles, draws on personal childhood memories and visual references from Indian chintz textiles. The work explores ideas of curiosity and camouflage, while engaging with the layered histories of material exchange between India and Europe. Through playful reinterpretation, she reflects on how cultural narratives can be reimagined with care and respect.
Meisen sees textiles as a space for dialogue — between memory and material, tradition and innovation — and uses her practice to explore the quiet yet powerful ways design can connect people, places, and time.
