Xinwei Ye ( Vita )
About
Vita is a transdisciplinary artist working across watercolor, 3D modeling, kinetic installations and interactive textiles. Using materials as her medium, she explores the nuanced relationships between individuals, communities and cultures. Her signature visual language employs translucent materials, fluid colors and transformable structures to create works that are both poetic and philosophical.
Her practice draws inspiration from nature, social structures and Eastern philosophy, particularly the concepts of “fluidity” and “symbiosis”. Recent works featuring swallows rendered in sintered glass examine migration, memory and identity—the bird’s seasonal journeys symbolize transient belonging, while the glass’s fragility and translucency embody emotional paradoxes.
She views art not merely as expression, but as a connective language—bridging past and future, body and perception, technology and emotion, the individual and the world. As articulated in Zen and Daoist philosophy, this work embodies the belief that “all beings share one breath”—where heaven and earth are both origin and destination. This cyclical sense of flow and respiration forms the conceptual foundation of her practice.
As a Chinese artist working in Britain, Vita identifies with migratory birds, navigating cultural boundaries to articulate a contemporary identity that is “rootless yet connected, fragile yet resilient.” Her art serves as a connective language, seeking resonance and belonging in an ever-shifting world.
