Ziyue Shao
About
Ziyue Shao is a MA Textiles student at the Royal College of Art, with a background in Fashion from her BA studies. She specializes in fashion textiles, bringing strong expertise in weaving, embroidery, and stitching. Ziyue is also proficient in graphic and digital design, with a keen ability to integrate visual creativity into her textile work. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges traditional textile craftsmanship with contemporary design innovation.
Ziyue’s practice is deeply rooted in exploring the relationship between nature and humanity. Driven by her curiosity, she seeks to uncover natural language and translate them into textile words. She is passionate about embodying her concepts through handcrafted techniques, using making as a way to connect material, meaning, and emotion.
Her work in RCA are collection of pieces which explore how the material and texture of the outer shell convey a sense of protection, aiming to raise awareness around the theme of safeguarding. Their forms sevoke associations with both skeletons and seashells, embodying the structural strength of the golden ratio as well as the resilience and wisdom found in natural organisms.
