Curating Contemporary Art (MA)

CCA students sit on Jerry Brockmann’s artwork Seat#12 at the Goethe-Institut London. During a curated event on 28 March 2025, they mirrored the gestures that the opposite participant makes. The room is filled with natural light from tall windows. A blank screen, a tripod-mounted camera and bookshelves are visible in the background. The word “wanderlust” appears on one of the windows.

This year’s Curating Contemporary Art (CCA) MA cohort explores curating as an explicitly contemporary practice. Building on their encounters with selected moving image works commissioned by Artangel across the last three decades, each group considers how the issues that their work responded to at the time of its making are still relevant today. Re-engaging with these works and the concerns they speak to from their 2025 perspective, as well as archival material and artist research, they present a range of new commissions as well as restagings and adaptations.

Spanning moving image work, installations, performances, discussions and workshops, this year’s presentations also show reflections on the groups’ research trajectories. The visitor is invited to experience the explicit and implicit complexity of the contemporary as an enduring concern in the curatorial.
